Salt Lake City —

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today:

“We are profoundly saddened by the events this morning at a school in Connecticut. We grieve with all those affected by this tragedy and especially for the families of these little children.

“In this hour of great sorrow we pray the Spirit of our Father in Heaven will provide comfort and peace to all.”

As the news reports come in regarding this particular tragedy, we must keep in mind that we are called to mourn with those who mourn (Mormon 18:9).

Right now, there are more questions than there are probably answers. Even with the best intentions to understand and make sense of this type of tragedy, we are still left not having full knowledge as to what would possess someone to take the lives of others.

This should not be a time to politicizing particular agenda’s. We should pray and come together to support those families that have lost innocent children – especially during this holiday season where the focus is supposed to be on peace and love – good will toward men.

Those of us with Mormon Apologia are praying for the families, the school, and the nation. Let us remember that we have the peace and love in Christ, Jesus.
