Hunger for the Word of God
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after
righteousness: for they shall be filled.
~ Matthew 5:6 ~
There is a hunger in the land, and a genuine thirst –
a great hunger for the word of the Lord
and an unsatisfied thirst for things of the Spirit.
I make a plea that we constantly seek the
inspiration of the Lord and the companionship
of His Holy Spirit to bless us in keeping our efforts
on a high spiritual plane
~ Stand a little Taller: Counsel and Inspiration for each day of the year ~
Today is a day of thanksgiving where we take a moment to appreciate the people and the many blessings we have in our life. It is a day for families and friends to come together and to feast. A celebration for what our Heavenly Father has blessed us with. Yet, our hearts and thoughts turn to those who may not have family, or who may be away from their family because of extenuating circumstances beyond their control. Others may spend their first time without a loved one sitting at the table with them. Our hearts even ache for those who are destitute and without food, and are out in the inclement weather. These individuals may have lost their home and find themselves homeless. Temporal blessings aside, there is also the spiritual destitute; the seeker who wants to quench the hunger and thirst that is plaguing their soul.
There are two types of seekers that are hungering and thirsting. Those who have the blessings of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ in these last days and those who do not, but desire to have an understanding of where they came from, why they are here, and where their eternal destiny resides. Concerning the former, we should always strive to hunger and thirst after the Righteousness of our Heavenly Father. This is accomplished by our desire to serve, to follow the example of our Savior, and to endure to the end. Concerning the latter, they are seeking to be filled, to have their thirst quench from the fount of living waters.
Therefore, as one stops to ponder the significance of today, let us count our many blessings, reach out to share the message of the Restored Gospel that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the Living God, and to bring the message of the Gospel to those who are open and willing to hear the words of ancient and modern Prophets and apostles. Today is a day of Thanksgiving, and let us give thanks for the Restoration, the Gospel of Christ – which is the Atonement of Christ, and to share this message to those who are temporally and spiritually hungry and thirsty.
